What is a Projector and what are its categories?

Projector

A projector or image projector is an optical device that projects an image onto a surface, commonly a projection screen. Generally, projectors create an image by shining a light through a small transparent lens, but some newer types of projectors can project the image directly, by using lasers. A virtual retinal display, or retinal projector, projects an image directly on the retina instead of using an external projection screen.

The common projector used today is a video projector. They are digital replacements for earlier types of projectors such as slide projectors and overhead projectors. Recent projectors are handheld projectors that use lasers or LEDs to project images. Their projections are hard to see if there is too much ambient light.

Movie theaters used a type of projector called a movie projector, mostly replaced with digital cinema video projectors.

Uses of Projectors

Projectors are used for delivering lectures and presentations to small and huge groups, as well as watching movies and other videos in home theater. They are found in a variety of environments, including classrooms, conference rooms, and in homes and backyards.

Projectors are of different size and capabilities, from handheld devices that need a dark room to deliver a viewable image to high-powered devices that can be easily read even in brightly lit offices. There are various makes and models in the market these days, and these projectors can be purchased from electronics retailers or specialty stores dealing in camera and projection equipment.
